How to Nix the Little Dictators in Your Life

Veronica

Veronica is my bad, Tarot reading twin. So bad in fact that she totally dropped the ball and forgot to write today’s blog post! So I’m recycling one of her older posts, but one of my faves. I hope you’ll find it in your heart to forgive her…..

No, I’m not talking about your children, as the title might suggest. So don’t get all excited.

I’m talking about the MEDIA!

Media – TV, radio, movies, ads and other stupid shit – all dictate what you should be focusing your attention on.

Magazines dictate what you should be worried about…CELLULITE!

The Internet dictates what you should want….A FUCKING VITAMIX, ALREADY!

The News tells you who you should be afraid of….TERRORISTS!

And worst of all, movies dictate what constitutes “sexy”….MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY?! I beg to differ.

But YOU get to dictate how much you engage with the Media shit show.

The most rebellious thing you can do this weekend is switch off the media dictators in your life.

So don’t just spend your Saturday vegging out on the couch watching shows on Netflix again, okay? Unless of course that show is Spartacus. Then it doesn’t count.

  1. Veronica,
It is truly amazing how much one can enhance their lives once we choose to switch off, power down, and jump off the grid. I took this advice intuitively, I hadn’t read it until today. I spent last weekend oblivious to the world at large and focused on the my own little ecosystem. A home project flourished, flowers were potted and set in the sun. Music was listened to, a lovely outside seating area was arranged, I tend to be a full moon rising type anyway, so I clean and nest in that phase. It was glorious. Ending with a full moon mineral salt bath. I even consciously forewent GOT premiere, and I didn’t even miss it. It’s wonderful to realize and accept the small beauties of life.

  2. I hear what you’re saying and agree with a lot of it, but having said that… a high-speed emulsion blender like a Vitamix really is a fantastic kitchen tool. We use it almost every day of the week for everything from smoothies to soup to pasta sauce. Oh, yeah – easy pasta sauce. Add carrots, onions, celery, a few cloves of garlic, parsley, a big can of diced tomatoes, and buzz until smooth. Bam, instant pasta sauce. Just simmer to reduce and intense the flavor, add salt and pepper, and you’re done.

  3. Thank you!!!! I have been feeling so overwhelmed by what we are being told by the media about food…super foods, banting diets, too much sugar in fruit, too many carbs in potatoes, only use coconut oil the list goes on and on. Surely the more simply we live the better…what grows on the trees and what grows from the ground should be sufficient to sustain us. When we were kids we could eat as much watermelon as we wanted on a hot day around the pool or on the beach…now there are warnings all over about the enormous amount of sugar in watermelons…I believe in my heart that people choose junk food because they are confused about the rest of the food that grows naturally. There are too many rules about natural foods. I was in a supermarket the other day and a mother with a toddler were within earshot of me…the toddler asked for bananas and the mother said maybe next time because too many bananas are not good for you…when I saw them at the check out counter the toddler was eating a packet of chips…that is the power of media!!! thank again for this wonderful post x

    1. Denese, I couldn’t agree with you more!!!! Our relationship to food (as a society) is a strange one. I know people who eat crap and then say stuff like “i’m cutting out potatoes because they’re too carby”. Just eat real food! Potatoes aren’t the reason people are struggling with weight. Anyhow, I could go on all day about it…but I won’t! Thanks for your comment and I’m glad this post resonated with you 🙂
