Participation is for wimps

veronica 2Veronica is my evil twin sister who spends her days flirting with 20-year-old boys, suntanning topless on public beaches and saying NO to charities….she needs that money for martinis! Let’s see what evil advice she has for us today…

participation

Osho Zen Tarot

Today’s Tarot card is Participation (aka Four of Wands).

When I was in elementary school, my teachers were always blathering on and on about “participation.” As in “Veronica, why aren’t you participating?”

Well, for starters I don’t participate in things that are stupid (like dodgeball) and I certainly don’t participate in things just because generic rule followers request it of me.

So take a look at your life today and notice what kinds of things you’re participating in. Do you enjoy it? Does it bring you satisfaction? Or are you doing it to appease someone?

For example, do you participate in donating to the charity of the week when you’re going through the checkout at Costco? Is it because you want to? Or is it because you’re worried that if you don’t, all those hot dog munchers behind you will think you’re a heartless bitch?

Participation is wonderful when it brings people together and diabolical when it forces you to just go through the motions for fear of being ostracized !

  1. You are hilarious! I’ve just discovered your Fridays with Veronica. Love the humor and the message. You’re a really good writer.

  2. This is a great point: this society tends to pressure us to do and be the stoopidest things possible, probably to 1) get money out of us and 2) to make the others doing it feel okay about doing it. Neither of those seems a good reason, whereas *because you genuinely want to* is–thanks!

  3. Amen to your last statement girl! If you give, you should give from the heart and not from peer pressure. Understand what you are giving to and believe in that charity! I almost got suckered once where I worked, a couple’s house burn down. She was a lawyer and he was a doctor. I got told in a not so nicely manner that I had to be aggressive with my customers to donate. Enter my evil twin. So you know how well that worked out. LOL
The following week it was camp for kids with cancer, well I covered the whole wall allocated, had to use the windows and even the exit doors. Manger comes up to me and asks, “what is this” pointing at my donations. “Well boss, you told me I had to be aggressive when it came to donations, I was just following your orders sir.” Needless to say I had to run to the ladies right quick. LOL
