Today’s Tarot card is The Hermit. One of my faves! This card tells you that its time to go within and tune out all the drama and excitement of the outside world.

You may notice a big zero on this card right under where the Hermit is standing. The message I get from this today is that it is time to contemplate emptiness.

If you pay close attention you will see that you often run and hide from emptiness – always doing things to “fill the void” – such as “keeping busy”, snacking, watching movies and shows you don’t even care about – all to avoid the gnawing emptiness within.

Today, make friends with that emptiness. Instead of reading the morning paper while you eat breakfast, just eat without trying to distract yourself. Instead of automatically turning on the radio when you get in your car, drive in silence…..and see what emerges from that silence.

The Hermit has appeared today because you feel a certain sense of aloneness in your life. Not necessarily lonely – but this feeling that you are having to walk this path alone and figure things out by yourself.

At times this exhilarates you and other times it saddens and frustrates you. But know that others have also walked this path before you (note the odd stone faces in the ground!) and while you cannot see them, their spirit is with you.

And know that others will walk your path after you and in this sense you are a trailblazer and a wayshower for the future. Which is really exciting!

But the main message is that any sense of loneliness is an illusion – so don’t let it hold you back. Instead, keep moving forward even if you aren’t really sure where you are going. You only need to know the next two steps – not the next 2,000.

The Hermit tarot card is all about taking comfort in solitude and shining the light of consciousness and inner wisdom on your life.

When you look at this card you see scary creatures lurking in the dark corners. This represents the idea that we fear what we do not understand. There are no frightening creatures in the light. When you notice your fears come up, shine the light of awareness on it. The more you know about and are aware of your fears, the less power they will hold over you.

Nearly every negative feeling we have can be traced back to fear. So when a negative feeling arises today, ask yourself what the original fear is.

Get to know your fears – where did they originate from? How do they effect you in your day to day life? What kinds of things can you do to help dissipate this fear?

But most importantly, ask yourself who would I be without this fear?

The Hermit is today’s Tarot card, which suggests that now is the time to go inward to find answers. If possible, set aside some time today to rest, relax, meditate and journal.

It may seem like there are many distractions in your life – people, chores and other things that seem to demand your attention. So remember that you do not have to wait for these things to recede in order to go within. You can go within at any time, no matter what is happening.

Notice the energy and light that resides within you – its easiest to notice it in your hands first, and sometimes your head and face. Put your attention on where you feel this life-energy the strongest and then feel it getting bigger and spreading out over your whole body. Feel yourself glowing from the inside out.

As you radiate this glowing energy, know that you are in a higher state of consciousness – if you ask your higher self for guidance right now, you will be amazed at what you receive!

You are a journeyer on the path of life and The Hermit comes to tell you that only the light of your own consciousness will show you the way.

No one else can fix your problems or make you become enlightened – this is something you must do for yourself. We are so used to giving away our power to an outside authority and accepting others rules that listening to our higher self and following our own rules can feel foreign to us.

I feel like this card has two messages today. The first is for those who have made their own paths and have chosen not to take the well traveled ones that society has laid out for us. Like the cat in the picture, you are an independent soul. Perhaps you have chosen not to marry or have children, or you are self employed in what others would consider an unusual profession, or you just feel like you don’t really “get” most people and the way they live their lives. You are here to inspire others – to shine a light on what was once darkness and to be living proof that happiness is created from within. You may not realize it yet, but you are forging a path for others to follow many years from now.

The second message is for those who feel drained and overwhelmed by all the activity and social interactions in their lives right now. It is time to retreat and spend time alone. Meditate, go for nature walks, don’t answer the phone or the door and take a break from email and the internet. This will renew your spirit and give you a fresh, clear perspective on life.
